Each January, the Knoxville Expo Center in Tennessee hosting companies the annual Cabin Fever Vehicle Show. Each year, local cars group the Expo Center from walls to wall, and this year’s 36th edition was no different from The month of january 10th to 12th. Between display cars, cars for sale, and exchange meet booths, the expo middle is filled to capacity — not to mention the thousands of spectators the big event draws. We were on hand (of course) in search of the hottest Ford muscle in the region to scratch our own cabin temperature itch. We had no problem finding a lot to cure it! It had been hard to ignore the upfront and middle display that Unique Motorcars acquired at Cabin Fever. Featuring a good “under construction” Cobra kit vehicle as well as several finished examples, it had been a great mix and tribute towards the legendary Shelby Cobra. Each of the vehicles seemed to be unique and custom built within their own way. When it comes to us, we might not be picky. We would take whatever one was offered for a try out!
Many times we all run across people with multiple cars. Generally however , the others are at home within the garage. Not often do we discover them all on display. That was the case regarding Doug Owen who brought not just one, but three amazing Fords to be able to Cabin Fever: a 1966 Fairlane, a fully documented 1967 Shelby GT500, and our favorite, an absolutely beautiful reddish colored 1964-1/2 Mustang coupe. Featuring ideal red paint, red interior, plus finished off with redline auto tires, this car begs for your interest. A closer look reveals the factory V-8, four barrel carburetor, and manual transmission. Doug’s 1964-1/2 was easily one of our faves of the entire show!
Looking to spend a little cash? The show featured a nice interior swap meet as well as several vehicles for sale. Our favorite was this 1967 Ford Galaxie convertible: black upon black with a factory 390 big block under the hood. Fully documented and pretty solid original condition, the vehicle would be a great candidate for recovery. Personally, we would have cruised inside it as-is!
Fox-body Mustangs were well-represented at the occasion. From left to right, an ex Florida Highway Patrol SSP, the pristine teal 1993 Cobra, along with a 3, 000-mile 1989 GT. There was also another half dozen roughly Foxes mixed about the show industry.
Taylor plus Tracy Cochran’s 1957 Ford F100 is definitely what you would call a “sleeper. ” We even walked because of it a couple of times at the show before we all realized just how cool it was. Beneath the hood of this “primer’d beast” is really a Kenne Bell-fed modular motor. Discuss a stop light surprise!
Often times at shows, we have been asked to pick a top five plus a favorite and honestly, it’s by no means an easy task. But still, sometimes one or two automobiles will stick in our mind for reasons uknown. At Cabin Fever, it was a couple of cars that we just could not wring. Up top, Eddie Conner’s 1966 Fairlane. On the bottom, Ralph Eggleston’s 1966 Fairlane. Both of these white special gems have been restored tastefully with improved wheels and custom interior, plus both look ready for cruising! It had been definitely a treat to check out these two without spilling modified Fairlanes during the weekend!
