You most should know by now I love the Plymouth Superbirds even if many people still believe they are ugly.
In the day when they were sold, a lot of thought it was a goosed upward Road Runner with a cone trapped on the front and a wing attached on the rear. Not too far away from I guess, but the car did move through a sales slump for a while in 1970 and 1971.
Most people could not picture themselves heading grocery shopping with a car with a large engine and a God awful side on the back. It served simply no purpose for the daily commute plus there were many that wanted this to go away until the car completely outclassed NASCAR on Sunday’ s.
It used to be ‘ earn on Sunday sell on Monday’ back in the day because teams had taken say an Oldsmobile 442 towards the track on Sunday. If they earned, sales would be bumped on Mon. Then, NASCAR started making teams construct cars that all looked the same yet added stickers to them to look such as cars we would drive. It bombed.
Even today, NASCAR’ s i9000 numbers are not what they were. You need to know that because I was one of those supporters who walked away. I previously spent a lot of money going to tracks plus throwing money around being scammed from the hotels and food bones to the track themselves for exactly what turned out to be boring racing.
I recall being at the Bristol race track for the evening summer competition with literally 162 thousand shouting fans and the racing was excellent. I have been to Dover Delaware furthermore where the racing was so dull people in the stands could plus did lay down on the metal bleachers and fall asleep. I have been to Charlotte now, Arizona, Daytona, Dover and Indy. I would not even consider going any longer. I also used to attend the Indy 500 at one time. That was an exciting competition back in the day where the drivers had been like rock stars. But allow me to not bore you with Nascars issues.
Go to a monitor and they cover up seats now, and everything the drivers are so vanilla. The particular hall of fame museum within Charlotte has been a big bust as it opened. They have lost the primary customer and make excuses for your awful races. But folks, in the 70’ s and up until regarding 15 years ago racing was special. Basically were special. This Superbird therefore dominated the races NASCAR do change the rules that essentially pushed the Bird out. Rather than have the competition to rise to the fight these people seem to take the champ and connect his arm around his back again.
Ever notice within the last few years a real nobody wins the particular pole at Daytona but then arrive race day they get creamed? Well, NASCAR provides the intakes plus restrictor plates to all the motorists. Think if a nobody wins the particular poll it will be the talk all of the week how this unknown car owner beat out the other 42 drivers for your pole. Then, race day arrives and everyone is excited that the exact same four or five headliners might not win the particular race. But , they do in the end anyhow. Smell a rat? Most people possess years ago but who’ s going to argue or fight NASCAR? No one of course.
So , it could be nostalgia, but let’ s return to some of the old ways of racing. Let’ s look at what was a big strike in the past. You never know, it may simply work today.
