Kevin Benavides takes the command from the Dakar Rally with two days to look
The particular 2021 Dakar Rally is now getting into its final phase, with the fight hotting up as the rally minds towards its final showdown within Jeddah. Today saw mixed prospects for the Monster Energy Honda Group who, in spite of a 1-2-3 complete at the end of the tenth stage, needed to endure the withdrawal of Nacho Cornejo who had been in the battle for your overall Dakar win.
Riders set out this morning from your Neom bivouac for the tenth phase of Dakar 2021, heading southeast towards Al-Ula. They faced an overall total stage of 583 kilometres which includes 342 kilometres against the clock. The particular dunes are over, but the difficult agenda nevertheless served up tiny rocks and rock-filled tracks, with the path running through canyons and exotic sections, in equal measures. The problem level showed few signs of reducing up.
It turned out to become a bittersweet finish for the team. On the other hand, the Monster Energy Honda Group was once again celebrating with a podium lock-out at the arrival in Al-Ula, with Ricky Brabec claiming a 3rd 2021 Dakar, second place likely to Barreda with Kevin Benavides within third. However , the team furthermore saw José Ignacio Cornejo drop at kilometre 252, bringing substantial consequences for the Chilean rider. Right after making it the finish-line of the unique stage in bad shape after medical advice, Nacho decided to retire from your race and undergo a thorough healthcare examination. Fortunately, after the complete evaluation at the Tabuk hospital, the driver has no after-effects from the crash. Cornejo won a stage win together led the race for three times.
Victory on the day visited Ricky Brabec, who had going out from second position this morning, starting the track for much of your day. The American was looking much more at ease on terrain well-suited in order to his style and reached the conclusion of the special three minutes before team-mate Joan Barreda. Brabec right now lies second in the overall rankings, 51” behind the leader.
Barreda, who started seventh, showed good pace, making up some of the time he previously dropped yesterday. The Spaniard completed second and is currently fourth within the rally.

STAGE: 1ST OVERALL: SECOND
Today certainly was a good day, but it has been unfortunate for our team-mate Nacho Cornejo. We heard that he crashed, yet finished the stage and they wound up taking him to the hospital. It is unfortunate for him, but he is OK and he made it to the finish-line. That’s always a plus. Today has been fast with some traces from last night and some from last year. My group Kevin at kilometre 75 proceeded to go off the roadbook a bit and obtained confused, so I took over from there starting the whole way until the end. I used to be thinking all day about a strategy, to sit back a little and set myself on with tomorrow, but the other guys had been a little bit off the pace and beyond the boundary behind. I didn’t want to relax and wait for six minutes, therefore i decided to bite the bullet plus push all day. Tomorrow I will open up the stage. I’m very fortunate to have my team-mate Joan plus Kevin behind me. Unfortunately, when they catch me, I’m going to shed time tomorrow, but it is what it really is. We’ve put in one hundred percent and have trained with everything. Hopefully in the end everyone is going to be happy. Anything less than winning is going to be unacceptable. We’ll do our best plus try and make it to the end on top. It will be great to get all the Hondas over the box, but if we get on best, that will be the ultimate. But the situation I am in for stage eleven is not poor, but it’s not going to be simple. They’ve made it tough this year as well as the boys have made it tough as well. I’ll try and do my greatest.

I’ve unsuccessful in my mission. Today I had an extremely heavy fall that left me personally unconscious for a few minutes, I was in a position to get back onto the bike, yet very slowly and with the bike many bent up. I made the particular stage 10 finish-line, but for protection reasons I have to get such a large blow to the head checked out correctly. I feel like I’ve been strike by a train. I have nothing remaining to do but thank my group, my family, my trainers and all the particular fans for their tremendous support plus encouragement. We were so close to the huge dream… it will remain unfinished company.

PHASE: 3RD OVERALL: 1ST
Today’s stage had been very complicated, I started starting the track and I was really focused until kilometre 80 exactly where I made a navigation mistake and I dropped a couple of minutes until I discovered the WP. Ricky had simply arrived there and he overtook myself so I followed behind. There was plenty of dust and there were also a large amount of rocks and dry rivers, and so i stayed a little further back throughout the whole stage. I have heard this news about Nacho’s withdrawal; it’s the shame because he really did an amazing job day after day. I wish to send our best wishes to Nacho, and wish he gets well as soon as possible and am know that he will be back stronger than ever before to continue the fight. For our component, we will continue giving everything together and personally I will fighting designed for what is also my dream. We are very aware that anything can occur so I will try to keep working when i have done until now. Tomorrow, we will possess a long stage, we’ll have to be clever and navigate well.

STAGE: 2ND OVERALL: 4TH
Today was a good phase for me. The truth is that it was very important to enter the groove again after the other day, where I had a fairly heavy drop and lost consciousness for a bit. Nowadays it was important to make progress. The very first kilometres were difficult as there was clearly a lot of dust and it was hard to overtake other riders. It proceeded to go well and now there are two levels until the end. I’m a bit depressing for Nacho, he had done an excellent job throughout the Dakar. Now, it is important is that he is fine, and can recuperate and that he can continue working such as before. Tomorrow is going to be one of the greatest stages so we will have to be very concentrated so as to not to make any errors. If we can do a good job during these two days and get the three Honda bikers onto the podium, it would be amazing. But if it doesn’t happen, we will also be super satisfied with the great work we’ve done so far.
