Jimmy Carter sources aside, this was a Golden Period of Ford styling and overall performance, culminating with the intro of the Mustang at the 1964 New York World’s Reasonable. Nearly ten years later, Ford Style sagged under the weight of govt regulations, insurance costs, and a gas turmoil or two. When names such as Maverick, Pinto, Granada, and Mustang II replaced old school names plus design cues, Ford was never ever the same.

Restored plus modded by Superior Autoworks associated with Frederica, Delaware, Code Blue may be the latest example of a mega-build through shop owner and emcee, Ed Denkenberger. Ed has been developing show-winning customs, hot rods and classic trucks for nearly a quarter of an one hundred year now, and the hits just maintain coming.
As is usually the case, the backstory is as impressive as the car alone, and Ken takes us returning to the beginning, “My Dad ordered the vehicle new from a dealer in Raeford, North Carolina, after Ford announced it had been coming out with a half-year upgrade using a 427 engine and a fastback C-pillar to improve competition in NASCAR. This individual took possession of the Galaxie within March 1963 for $3, 930. 69. ”
From there, the car provided a lot enjoyment for father and kid. Ken recounts a fun game these people used to play, “When I was 6 or 9, Dad would place a dollar on the dash. I’d be in the back seat, standing on the particular transmission tunnel and looking involving the bucket seats. He would tell me I really could have the dollar if I could get this. Each time I tried, he would ground it and throw me back to the seat. I never got the particular dollar. ”

Then the older Hollingsworth made a deal with their young scion. Ken explains, “He told me if I made straight A’s, he would buy me whatever vehicle I wanted when I turned 16. We still remembered the day he found me and said that I had held my part of the bargain. He wished to know what car I wanted. I informed him I wanted a 1969 Corvette 427. He laughed because which was way out of his league. “That was a $6, 000 vehicle reserved for doctors and attorneys, and my Dad was a butcher. He or she asked if I would be happy taking Galaxie. I immediately said indeed, and he gave me the keys. It had been 1969 and I was 16. ”
At this point, the ’63 1/2 was Rangoon Red having a red interior, Foxcraft mag tires with spinner center caps (Keystone knock-offs) and about 30, 000 mls on the clock.
Tobey maguire continues, “I had just used ownership of the hottest, fastest vehicle in the county where I resided and everyone knew it. This had beaten all the GTO’s, ‘Vettes, Mustangs, and 442s around city. Dad had it tuned simply by Holman Moody in Charlotte plus it had some serious stink. My own “cool factor” skyrocketed. Looking back again, I didn’t know enough regarding girls to make the most of it.
Sadly, things had taken a turn for the worse. Ken tells us, “Two years once i ‘inherited’ the Galaxie, it was rear-ended at a stoplight and then parked. It sat and deteriorated within the elements until 1980. The doors had been stuck shut from the impact and took the insurance money and purchased a 1970 GTX 440. Once We graduated from medical school plus was getting a paycheck from the ALL OF US Navy, it was then I had several spare money to start rebuilding the particular Galaxie. ”
“When I retired from the Navy blue in 2000, I started obtaining a bigger paycheck so I had the cash to put it in a shop for a whole build. An owner of a store that specialized in rods referred myself to Ed at Superior Autoworks yet I didn’t know how to find your pet. One day the UPS man made the delivery and wanted to know what had been under the cover. I showed your pet and told him my tale. Turned out that he went to school along with Ed and knew where their shop was. ”
That was back in 2001. Ken appeared Ed up and was amazed with his operation. Denkenberger had been within the auto restoration game for twenty-four years and his chops and status preceded him. “He recently had an organized, clean shop with great rock and roll playing. He had pictures over the wall of some of his develops and two projects in the store. The quality was top notch. We click and I got on his list. We saved money, bought some components, and met with Ed regularly to plan the build. The particular project grew from a stock repair with kick-ass stereo and disk brakes to a high-end show vehicle.
“I was waffling backwards and forwards until Ed took a tool plus cut a chole in the splash for the stereo. It wasn’t likely to be a stock rebuild after that. Using the on the car in 2003 because his primary, full time build plus finished it in 2005. For your first show, Ed and I introduced our Dads up to see the vehicle. Ed’s father was suffering from malignancy and my Dad was battling heart problems, so we had limited time still left. Both Dads met and obtained along famously. My Dad had not observed the car since 1980. All of us got Best of Show and it was obviously a thrill to accept the award with the fathers present. ”
Then one more stroke of bad luck happened. Whilst Ken was trailering the car together with his Ford Excursion, he hit several black ice and the rig jackknifed, with the trailer shearing free from the particular hitch. Code Blue was buckled inside the enclosed trailer, but the power of it hitting a berm from the highway, the car broke free from the tie-downs and smashed the car in to the end of the trailer.
Code Blue was almost totaled.
Ken continues, “I parked this for a while, waiting for a spot in Ed’s shop. While it was in, I had the particular motor redone to fix some issues, and we decided to do some more adjustments. In 2017 after a thorough repair, we returned to the show routine and we’ve been loving the particular journey. Throughout all this, Ed and am have become close friends. Ed wants to place a spoiler on it but I believe I’m done. ”
For now, Ken is enjoying the vehicle and rolling around car displays in the southern United States and of course the particular East Coast. If you see an azure blur this summer, chances are Ken will be rolling the car with dad operating shotgun from above.
