Best Muscle Cars
By Dave Ashton
The Nice Guys is a 2016 action comedy movie starring Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling who essentially team up to investigate a missing teenage girl centered around the timeframe of 1977 in Los Angeles. The film itself is a decent enough watch and recommended viewing, but what’s even better is the vast array of period correct cars ranging from the late 60s to late 70s, including a few muscle and pony cars in the mix.
Being based in the late 70s, its expected to see more vehicles from that decade, rather than prize muscle cars from the late 60s and early 70s, but there are some standout cars thrown into the mix.
Blink and you miss one scene showing a 1971 AMC Javelin in a nice silver color, with a few other AMC models showing up throughout the film, which include a 1972 and 1975 AMC Matador and a 1978 AMC pacer wagon.
There are a few Cadillacs thrown into the mix to show the high-end side of things like a 1969 Cadillac Coupe DeVille, 1975 Cadillac Eldorado, 1968 Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado, 1977 Cadillac Sedan DeVille, 1978 Cadillac Seville and a 1980 Cadillac Sedan DeVille Stretched Limousine.
But the standout vehicles for me were firstly the 1979 Chevrolet Camaro which looks like a Z28 halfway through the movie, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle, 1970 Dodge Challenger, 1972 Dodge Coronet, 1966 Ford Mustang and 1968 Ford Mustang. Apart from the Camaro, the other vehicles just play cameo parts, but it’s still good fun to play spot the vehicle in this movie.
You also get a showing from a few other automobiles such as Plymouth’s and Pontiacs in the form of a 1972 Plymouth Fury, 1968 Plymouth GTX and a 1966 Pontiac GTO to name but a few.
There’s a great lineup of vintage vehicles in this movie, so it’s recommended to give it a watch at some point.
