The upcoming 2016 Ford Flex will be already the 3rd generation of this seven-passenger car that will offer 3 different trims. It is a full-size SUV model for a large family that has gained great level of popularity.
Presumably, a renewed vehicle will be built on the basis of the same Ford D4 platform as before and will keep its square or “boxy” form with the dimensions of 201.8 x 75.9 x 68 inches. However, it will feature a plenty of changes, particularly in styling that will interestingly compile modern and retro features. One of the details that attract attention first is large lettering “FLEX” placed not on the grille but on the hood of the car. There will be variety of alloy wheels options, starting from the 17-inch to the 20-inch ones.
2016 Ford Flex provides a very comfortable accommodation for seven adult people. Seats organized into three rows are covered either with premium-quality upholstery material or with natural leather. The front seats are heated in each trim, while the rear ones – only in more expensive versions. The car is equipped with various electronics, namely an 8-inch touchscreen on the dashboard, 2 LCD screens built-in the front seats, 2/3-zone climate control, powerful audio (with up to 12 speakers) and safety (with parking sensors, 6 airbags, rear-view camera, and anti-lock brakes) systems.
Engine Specs and Improvements
There are no accurate data as for the engine type and capacity of the future model. Though, some experts believe that the car will get a 2.3L V6 turbocharged engine showing approximately 290 hp and 255 lb-ft torque or a 3.5L version performing 367 hp and 355 lb-ft torque that will take, though, less fuel due to the better aerodynamics rates and engine management system. As a standard version, both variants will work in pair with a six-speed automatic gearcase. Optionally, there will exist also a nine-speed gearbox. The power will be transmitted to the front wheels or (optionally) to all the four wheels. The model will be able to accelerate up to 62 mph in 7 (with the less powerful engine) or 6 seconds only.
Release Dating and Selling Price
The exact day and month of the car’s appearance to the world is still unknown. However, rumors say this date will come very soon. Surprisingly enough, 2016 Ford Flex will cost not so much for such a posh crossover. Its price will vary from 30 to 40 thousand dollars, depending on the chosen trim version. Nissan Pathfinder, Chevrolet Traverse, and Honda Pilot will become this car’s main competitors at the automobile market.
