Experiencing a prolonged spell of success, GM’s Cadillac division has released three new models of luxury cars. These are the XTS with lengthened bodywork, the ATS which is going to compete with the BMW 3-Series, and the ELR Coupe with a hybrid engine. Recently Cadillac presented a stunning new concept car named Ciel, after the French word for sky. This excellent cabriolet combines old luxury style and new technological aspirations.
The 2016 Cadillac Ciel can really strike you with its dimensions (length – 203 inches, width – 77 inches, height – 50 inches). With the backward opening rear doors and without a B-pillar this four-seat convertible definitely reminds the 1961 Lincoln Continental. According to Cadillac’s design director Clay Dean, the Ciel represents the heritage of large and expressive luxury which is the result of the company’s experience.
The car is enough spacious for the passengers thanks to the long wheelbase of 125 inches which is specially developed to fit 22-inch alloy wheels. The design of the 2016 Cadillac Ciel combines features of nickel, hand-crafted leather and wood. Advanced technology can be seen in whole appearance including expressive LED headlights and taillights.
For the interior the designers were guided by principles of authenticity, simplicity and spaciousness. The passengers will undoubtedly feel more comfortable in soft seats with sloping bolsters and upholstered with natural leather. Perhaps the special feature of the Ciel’s interior design is Italian olive wood. This is a peculiar material of luxury class which is notable for high durability. The rear range passengers will be provided with brand-name plaids as well as with a humidor for cigars.
The interior of the Ciel features advance technologies as well. Accurate gauges have a chromed casing. The central console is equipped with several hidden connectivity sockets. Beside, the electronic system includes Bluetooth connectivity and inductive charging.
Under the hood the 2016 Cadillac Ciel will have a 3.6-liter V6 twin-turbocharged engine produced by General Motors. Matched with an electric motor supplied by lithium-ion batteries it is capable to generate 425 horsepower. Thus, the Ciel can be considered as a full-fledged hybrid model. With this the company says that at low speed such an assembly gives merely electric driving.
